First Things, First
Hello and welcome to Study His Word. The purpose of this site is to assist you in establishing a strong solid bond with God through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Before you begin browsing through the site, take some time to read this first article. It will provide you with information on the importance of studying the Word of God.
So first things, first. What do you need to do in order to understand the Bible? There is one important thing you must do and that is to accept Jesus into your heart which causes you to become born again (John 3:3). When this happens, the Holy Spirit will begin to guide you in your walk, and He will teach you all things (1 Cor 2:13). Yes, the Word of God is spiritually discerned (1 Cor. 2:14). After you’ve become born again, you simply need to do the following:
Pray, that is, call on the Lord and ask Him to provide you with the ability to understand His Word. Don’t get frustrated if you don’t understand it right away. It may take a bit of time, so keep calling on Him without ceasing (1 Thess 5:17) and be patient. In time He will provide you with better understanding.
Read the Bible on a continuous basis. Don’t miss a day. If it’s your first time getting into His Word, simply read through it. You can begin at the book of John and then to Genesis and read through. If you’ve read through His Word at least once, begin studying it so that you can begin “to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).
Apply His Word into your daily activities. Yes, this means when you go to work, when you’re with family, when you’re with non-believers and so on. The Bible tells us to be “doers of the word, and not hearers only” because if we don’t we’re only deceiving ourselves (James 1:22).
No Compromise. When it’s time to make choices, you need to choose the Word without compromise. What does this mean? Example: Let’s say you’re talking with a co-worker, and he begins to gossip about another co-worker. You’ve read through the book of Romans, and specifically in chapter 1:29-32, the word gossip is within a group of actions that God opposes and so you know that gossiping is not what you should be doing or listening to. Knowing this, a couple of questions quickly come to mind: Should I continue speaking to this co-worker who is gossiping or should I walk away or tell this person to stop? If you are truly seeking the Lord, you will know which action to choose. In addition, the Lord will give you the right words to speak.
Ok, lets begin this venture . . .
